hi, can the so called east-westpositioning of the forelegs be helped or is it a genetic thing. if it can be prevented or corrected, what can i do. she is a 9 month old female gsd. can exercise help too. what kind and how frequent.
can givivg calcium supplement help? thanks
In a 9 month old it is most likely just development issue. As the puppy grows they will go in and out of the proper front leg positions. The most common issue at this age is a lack of chest development. It will improve as the puppy ages and the chest develops.
There is nothing you can do about it. In some cases with dogs that are still developing you can train the proper leg position by re-positioning the legs as the dog stands. That will only work with a dog that has the proper genetic positioning of the legs and the turn out is a result of lack of development of the chest to push the elbows out.

Are you saying that there should be? This can turn into a fight drive post real quick if you want to tangle with me on this one. <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/laugh.gif" alt="" /> <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/laugh.gif" alt="" /> <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/laugh.gif" alt="" />
We can't avoid the enivitable, Conformation folks will come.....make them a forum! I must say watching a Conformation show is delightfull, I love the way they run around yelling and trying to make their dogs gate well. The work up the SCH dogs on the other end of the field, providing drive for us. And they do have some dam fine looking Shepherds. That is what is so great about the GSD, they are so virsitale.

I don't think fight drive is too bad of a place to put this question. Have you ever seen some of those CH Bichon Frise?? They can have very fight drive, little pissers... <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/laugh.gif" alt="" />
