I was wondering if it is possible to tell if a 6 mos old pup has fight drive. Or do you have to wait until they are mature? I have a young female that is out of good working bloodlines from Holland and I am new to working german shepherds. I am slowly learning about drives and drive thresholds. I picked her because she was the bully of the litter and she scored all one's and 1 two on Bernards pup test. she is still a bully with my other male dog who is 1 1/2 yrs. She likes to play rough with me and will take any rough play and dish it back out twice as hard. Is this an example of fight drive in her? I would really like some help if someone can. Thanks alot
I'll try to save you a hard landing here... <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/wink.gif" alt="" />
"Fight drive" is something that a pup can have a genetic disposition for, but it still needs to be trained into the dog. And this cannot happen until much later, when the dog has reached maturity and his defensive drives can be tapped (and after he has a very thorough foundation in prey work).
There have been plenty of lively discussions of fight drive on this board. Check them out. You'll have a pretty good idea of what it's all about then.
