I know there is a big discussion and many opinions in narcotic traing over psuedo vs real. I am starting a training program for our dept. and am considering using psuedo explosives in place of the real stuff for several reasons. Could anyone enlighten me on this topic? My theory on explosive detection is if the K9 alerts and there is NO explosives thats egg on my face, on the oter side if the K9 doesnt alert and there IS explosives then thats blood on my hands.
Thanks Kevin Im going to look into the silica based explosive. Do you have a website or contact for them. My main concern is with the security of the expolsives, we share a building with other non police depts, same with our storage facilities. Our training area is also a common property, Im working out the details to use a semi closed Dept of Defense Army base as our training area This would solve most of our issues . Also Thanks Ed
I've never been bashful in my opinion of psuedo drugs. I'm aware that the silica based explosives training aids are not psuedo. I've used them on a couple of occasions on already trained dogs, and while there was a definate change of behavior during the search the dog did not respond. Based on that, I've just steered clear of the product. Perhaps the results would be different had I started the dogs out on that product.
