I've read alot about some folks prefer DDR vs West German vs Czech vs Belgian etc.... bloodlines for their GSD. Is there, in general terms, as some dogs in one of these groups can be an exception, temperment, structure, prey, defense, fight etc....differences? Or is it more bragging rights that I have a dog with this country of origin or that country.
I prefer the DDR lines simply because they have the wonderful bone, large heads and rich pigment. They do have their downsides, slow to mature. But the good outweighs the bad in my book.
You should not only look at the country of origin alone as all countries have both showlines and working lines. You need to research the individual bloodlines themselves to see what dogs are in the pedigrees. I have a dog out of Czech parents who are showlines. The grandparents though themselves are from germany. All countries import and export, so you need to ask boodlines, not whether or not they are DDR, Czech etc. You also first need to know what you want your dog for, then look for the bloodline. <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/smile.gif" alt="" />
