J, did you say Petsmart???????? Just kidding. Scott, also remember they come in assorted sizes, get one that fits your dog. Also keep in mind that you are seeing these balls used as prey items in the sense of a training tool. I do not let my dog "keep" it and chew on it, especially unattended. They work incredibly well; I am still learning the nuances of proper application myself; the "Flinks Method" is the best training theory I have ever practiced and has manifested itself in the best relationship I have ever had with any of my dogs.

If you are talking about the Kong with a rope attached that is designed to float, I got one and it did't work well for the Flinks method. The rope is too long, but mostly too stiff to get good motion on it. I would look more for a ball on a light rope, or make one. You could also use a Kong to make one. The issue is the rope needs to be flexable enough to get good action with it.
If you can't be a Good Example, then You'll just have to Serve as a Horrible Warning. Catherine Aird.
I too got one of the small kongs on a rope (they make them in several sizes). We have been working with the small kong for a few days now but I am thinking that it might be a little to big ( I am using the small size) for it does have quite a bit of weight to it. The kong has hit my GSD a couple of times on the nose but he still ends up catching it before it hits the ground. In the tape it is mentioned not to use hard rubber toys that are heavy enough to hurt them when dropping it, which is my case I think. They did however have small balls made of rubber and have nobbies and a flexible string (they look identical to what is shown on the tape. I think tomorrow I will go get two of those balls on a rope (a spare one is not a bad Idea , I think).
