Hi all, I'm brand new to this and can use any help I can get. Back in may I purchased the Basic Ob tape along with the Building Drive, Focus, & Grip tape, since then I have done some basic ob with my 10 month old female GSD but not much, only what time would permit. Now that I have more time I have been watching the tape and working with her more often but now I'm somewhat confused, should I continue with the basic ob and the Flinks method or just use the Flinks method? Also should I keep her totally away from other dogs? Any help would be greatly appreciated...
I'm kinda in the same position as you are...getting both the same tapes and wondering which way to go. I'm building my 5 month old GSD drive with the Flinks method and using food for his Obed work (with no corrections). Kinda a cross-training so to speak, alternating between the two. His prey drive is alittle slow compared to his food drive...hope that changes. As far as keeping ur dog away from other dogs, not sure in what context you mean? Was wondering if my method was ok...anyone?
BTW, the Flinks DVD rocks! I learned so much. His insite is unreal!
My 2 cents for what it's worth. The tape on drive, focus & grip is simply that. The point is to bring out and stimulate the drive of your dog, build focus to do the work, and of course grip training has to do with protection. I would use the Flinks method of building drive, then teach the obedience commands while the dog is in drive. If the dog has drive for food then use food, if toy's then use toy's. You can see in the tape how Bernhard continually keeps the drive of the dog up by engaging the prey item, then heeling, or into the arms and outing the item. Using the toy to speed up sit and down commands. These things have worked well for me. JMO
New female GSD pup in the house. Using only drive building at this age (5 months)with some manners thrown in. Older you get the harder it is to keep up with a very active pup.
prey drive is fantastic, food drive also great. Using the Flinks method should produce a working female.
Sessions are about 2 minutes long two to three times a day.
Follow the steps in the tape, don't get ahead of yourself. <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/wink.gif" alt="" />
