I noticed that its easier to get my little dog to play if the other dog is not around. The more active dog sometimes hogs the playtime, asserting his enthusiasm. Then she'll just pout in the corner (unless I purposely dedicate attention to her). Still, she is a lot more active if there is no one else to curb her zeal.
Have you tried ball and string?
Two basic drives - food drive and prey drive. Which one would you say he has more of?
on a scale of 1 -10 food is about 1-2 and play drive is a 2 at best when but he will work for a " thats a good boy" and her is happy with a quick pat on the head but as far as tug a war haha not a chance in hell he is a well built dog the only time i see him very eager is to say the word " bye bye" and the whole time we are gone or at az new place he is a differant dog he will play with me at a lvl 3-4 but i would be happy to build him to lvl 2-3 around the house teaching him new things is very hard cause he cares less about the motive but as far as OB he is offleash and will listen very well mannered but NO DRIVES
The more people that I meet, The more I like my dogs
(Trey Denney)
Not all dogs have enough prey drive to be trained in that drive. Bernhard has demostrated that to us in seminars several times, and in fact Ed includes on one of the Flinks training tapes a session with a Bouv that shows no prey drive - however, that dog would work for food.
If your dog won't work for a toy/ball or food, as it appears to be with your dog, just consider him a pet and be content with pet-level obedience. Don't ask the animal to try and train beyond it's genetic potential, you're just asking for frustration there.
thanx for the advice he jsut seems like he is left out cause the other pup im training with is doing more and it seems to depress him while im working with her but i do spend lots of time with him mainly car rides which he loves walks grooming he just seems pissy when im training with her then i tried to let him out while im with her he gets in the way so im now starting to work him and then down him and work her then down her and work him and he is seeming not to mind this as much pluss the down time for her is teaching her the longer down thanx for all the replys and PM's
