Fero was brought up under the Lord topic so .... what are people's opinions on Fero? What he produced, linebreeding, ETC? Have you seen Fero producing better with some lines over others?
What about how his son's produced? Troll, Timmy, others?
What I have seen of Fero is that he produces alot of prey drive, but it is a nevous type of prey. While they look good, at a first galnce when you look closer you will find that they are for the most part hectic. Now some talented trainers may be able to mask this, but the raw dog is usally a bit hectic. They are norammly not strong dogs, but again there are exceptions to every rule. Perhaps some with diffrent people raising them the end result would be diffrent, but this is what I observed. I also observed that they panik quickly when given a correction, regardless of the foundation; hence they are a bit nervy.
I spoke with a German guy and he told me as a general rule the Fero daughters produce better and then the males, and he says Fero daughters are better in general. I have seen a few good dogs out of Fero daughters and granddaughter that were nice dogs, but as a whole I am not that impressed with him as many are. I find the males to have that hectic prey drive. That is what I see they all have in common.
I don't know much about the other dogs that you spoke of, except that I was told Yoshy could not handle pressure training very well; he was a dog that had to be trained in drive.
I too have heard that about Fero. I have not had much contact with the Fero lines. We had one dog in our club for a short while that was linebred Fero with some DDR. He was super solid in nerve, but was a prey dog. My helper has a young dog that goes back to Fero (quite a bit back). Super nice dog, but lots of "energy".
I have seen about 15-20 pups from linebreeding on Fero and all I can say is each one was weird. I like how the other post described it, a nervous prey drive.

I have a Fero grandaughter that fits the same mold--extreme hectic prey. Not an easy dog to live with--always looking for the ball. She has nice insticts, but lousy nerves. She could do ok in sport with the right handler.
What about a dog like Hacky Waldwinkle. He goes back to Fero. When you have him on the third line I would think that Fero has very little to do with Hacky. Others on the list like Kevin S I guess would have competed against him. What's thier opinion? Would they use him as a stud?
We have 3 dogs with Fero bloodlines, the oldest being a Fero grandson. The others have him in the 4th and 5th generation, so I don't know how viable he really is in their cases.
The grandson, however, is intense prey drive, fight drive, and hard as nails. We've always had "out" issues, although now that he's almost 7 they are getting better.
His grip is hard but we've had to work on making it full, and he does the "Fero shake" when the sleeve is slipped. Thank god never on the man.
I tried a pup that was also a Fero grandson this last year, and he was everthing bad that Fero produced. Needless to say he is no longer with me.
I don't think I'd choose another close up Fero dog.
Just my experiences. <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/tongue.gif" alt="" />
I think it is a safe to say that Fero is was just a big hype. WHile we have all seen some good dogs with Fero, these animals most likley did not get there strong points from Fero. For the most part they have that hectic prey in them that makes it hard to train a good grip for the sport. ALot of the Fero's I have seen would not make Police.
