I have 2 pups that are 3 1/2 months old and are bonded to each other very closely. I am giving one to a freind because of the boinding and pack issues. My question is will these little guys go crazy and go into some kind of deppression, or will they overcome their seperation pretty quickly since they are only 3 1/2 months old. BTW I am rehomeing one in the morning.
I'm no expert, I'm sure they'll get over it real fast. especialy if you play with the other one alot for a while. And the other one is more concerned about his standing in his new home. I got Max when he was 4 and half Months old, he still had a bunch of litter mates at the time and he jumped right into the wife's lap as soon as I brought him home. The animal behaviour experts could probably explain it better.
Thanks I just dont want my pup to go into seperation anxiety. Your post will help me sleep much better tonight. Also for any one who ever thinks about getting 2 pups "DONT DO IT".
I've never seperated pups before, but I've adopted a few dogs at various ages. What I've seen is that dogs just want to belong and know their place in a pack, and not being nearly as concerned with who's actually in it. My guess is that they'll be at 100% in less than a week.

Thank you, I have worried myself sick for days. Partly because I am attached to both of them but mostly because I didn't want to tramatize them by seperation. I have been slowly learning over the last week that 2 pups will fight even if they are best buds, they will also pay no attention to you, and they are impossible to train unless yopu have the space to kennel or crate each one seprately. I am hoping it will be just like when i took them away from their mother and they will only whine and look pitiful for a few hours, but I'd say it will take longer.
I rehomed one today and he is doing great with no problems. My pup is just running around everywhere and constantly howling like a wolf and whining. Anyone have any idea how long he will be like this?
I have walked him and tried to play but he is just depressed. He is currently sleeping so I hope that is a good sign that he is calming down. Any opinions or suggestions would be great.
Alot of interaction with you, and make sure his sleep is undisturbed while getting used to his new home, that can make them edgie, and unsure of how safe their new home is. You have to take the place of his siblings and playmates. You just have to be the alpha playmate.
No he is not in a new home he has been with us for 3 months, I just got rid of his sibling. The sibling i rehomed is doing great but my dog is having seperation issues from his littermate that he has been with for 3 1/2 months/
He had plenty of exercise this evening and he is eating great, the howling has calmed a lot. I took him walking in the subdivision and he is scared to death of cars, and other dogs and he started dragging me because he was terrified and he usually walks beside me.
Do you think it is because he is still scared from losing his brother which was the alpha to him or do you think he was just scared because this was a new experience for him because he has never been out of the yard. Also he was scared of people and he has never been scared of people when they were here.?
Also what is the best approach to get him used to walking in the subdivision (which is a new enviroment to him) with dogs, cars, and people that he has never seen?
Hi Mike,
Did you every get Ed's DVD "Your Puppy 8 weeks to 8 Months" ? You ought to, you'll sleep better. <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/wink.gif" alt="" /> if you got it, review it a again. I do frequently. Your puppy is looking to you for protection. Its your job to keep away the scary things. ie aggressive/rough playing dogs etc. good luck!
