Just a quick note to everyone on the board. Be careful when buying a dog that is supposedly already a certified PPD. A breeder that I just bought a pup from had his male's certification on his website, and someone copied the information and sold another dog using that certification number to a police department in Ohio. It wasn't caught until the dog was bought and then tested and realized that dog couldn't be a certified PPD. The certification number was researched and it came back to the original dog and breeder. Needless to say the PD that owns him is probably kind of peeved.

I had a similar problem with a breeder copying a PH certificate off a website, then stating the dog on the certificate was the father of my dog.....I didn't actually research his claim until neary 20 months later (when trying to prepare a pedigree for breeding purposes) and found out he was lying about the father of my dog......luckily I ended up with a hell of a dog.......bloodline is screwed up though.....can't find any information on the actual father other than he came out of Holland....not titled.....just a good working dog.
Moral of the story is to research as much as possible before making any committment.

Just out of curiosity to the first post. Who registers PPDs? Who keeps the records? Writes the certs? Sets the standards?
As far as I am aware no such thing exist. Most states don't even have minimum standards for PSDs let alone PPDs.
Also if this is in Ohio, all PSDs are supposed to be purchased and trained by state approved facilities and trainers. They must be approved by the Ohio Police Officers Training Council. If this is not the case, they should not have purchased the dog from the facility. If the person is a liar and a crook, they should be reported to the OPOTC and be removed from the list after an investigation if need be.

Who was the seller of the dog and who did they sell it to? If someone is falsifying their information, then please pass on the name of the person doing it. I am in Ohio.

If it IS ture, and you have some proof, please contact me off list and I can give you contact phone numbers so this can be reported. All dogs sold and trained for depts in Ohio must be on a list that is overseen by the Office of the Attorney General. If the person is a fraud and a crook, they should be reported.

I believe it to be true. The kennel name from where the certification was stolen from is Von Der Suden. The dog's name is Brit z Elisu. His certification number was on his website until the other day, when for good reason, it was taken off. If you give me a day or two to catch up with him I will try to get the thief's name that tried to use the info.

First, I agree with Mr. Van Camp, who cares if the dog is registered, we as police shouldn't be in the breeding business. More to the point, why on earth would a police department buy a dog without testing it in the first place. We spend countless hours developing specifications for most everything from cars to bullets, then buy a dog sight unseen?? Makes no sense to me. Sure buyer beware has it's place but come on folks, so does buyer commonsense.

If i understand evrything said here, aPSD does not need to be AKC regitered to be a goog dog to work the streets. I have an opertunity to breed with a friends PSD who is from the czech republic. He(the handler) has no papers for him and says the same thing."why would i need papers for a dog that works and is not a show dog?". I agree with him . I think that if we are to breed dogs it should be to produce strong working dogs with large heads, sound nerves, high drives, even temperment and no way to register the litter with the AKC or other clubs, due to my friend not haveing ANY prpers for his psd. I want to become a top breeder of GSD for Street potrole,pp, maybe even schd. I know that there ars dogs out there that are PSD and should not be. I WANT to help change that one dog/handler at a time. In the coming years i hope to have my own bloodline and to have a reputation for being "one of the top ten producers of police service dogs". If i breed with my friends dog, I hope that bloodines speek for themself and I am able to improve the quilty of dogs that are working. My freinds also told me that the police he trains with do not look for titles, numbers, clubs, or papers. One dog that i know of came from a kenney here in upstate NY. SOLd to them with the promase that "he will make a great dog for the streets",and he says that the dogs is great for narcodic, but has week nervers,(an over site) and a poor bite.(training? or gens?) I hope to have at least one dog in this police dog acadame so other police personal will have an opertunety to see what kind of dog that i will porduce.
