Hi all! I am in need of a photo of a Malinois head (male) to use in my Logo. It can be a full photo that I can crop the head for the logo.
I do not have a male and prefer to use one!
If you have a front profile or partial front side shot that you would give me permission to use I would appreciate it very much.
I will put your link on my site when it is up and running if you would like.
Any help would be great
Thanks in advance
Chad

Chad, don't know if you are still looking, but one way to get some good photos or art-type drawings is to go to google and click the link right above the search box that says something like "pictures" or "photographs" or something to that effect. Then enter your search term, like "malinois". You will get pages and pages of thumbnailed photos, drawings, etc.. One thing I have always done is to shoot the owner a quick email asking if you can use the pic. You can't always find the owner, but most are happy to let you use the material. That's what I did to create our club logo.

You need to be careful with that as the majority of the time the dog owner is not the photographer and the dog owner does not have copyright for the photo. Ask if they took the photos and own the copyright.
I have had that happen a few times.....

I am not fimiliar with the copywrite laws, however it was always my understanding that the photographer had the rights to the photo, as long as it was legally obtained (ie. taken in a public place, etc.) and not the owner of the dog? I have seen many pics of my dog or me turn up in the newspaper while I waqs working a track or something in public, then the next day the press puts it in the paper. Just a thought, for what it is worth ( usually nothing lol)

Jeff,
That is what i am saying - the photographer owns the rights to the photo.

Charlie,
I have not heard of the "model" release for dog photos as it relates to public events.
I do, as a matter of courtesy, will check with the owner of the dog if someone else wants the photo. Even if taken at a public event.
I have worked with DMCA on issues pertaining to someone posting my photos on their site. Or someone copying my photos off of someone else's site and placing them on their own.

Whoever owns the pics - unless you/they register them with the U.S Copyright Agency - you do not have a leg to stand on in court.
It costs $30 a year to submit your images to them - you must send off the form supplied by them, and either a contact sheet of pics or negs.
So.. regardless of who 'owns' them, it is all a 'he said, she said' without them being registered.

Do I have to register with your office to be protected?
No. In general, registration is voluntary. Copyright exists from the moment the work is created. You will have to register, however, if you wish to bring a lawsuit for infringement of a U.S. work. See Circular 1, Copyright Basics, section “Copyright Registration.”
This is from the US gov Copyright office.
It is not a question of he said/she said. If I take the image and create the photo/negative, I own the copyright from that point. If I want to sue someone, then I will register the photo(s) that they had stolen. Even if someone has taken a photo that I took/own copyright and merged it into a collage, it is still my photo.
From some odd reason (OK, this is a major pet peeve of mine), people think that it is OK just to use photos that are not their own to use. They will copy off of a picture and/or website. That it is OK and no one will mind; it is no big deal. And God forbid, that they should have to pay for it. But, a lot of time and effort (not to mention rolls of film/processing to get to a certain level) goes into getting that picture.
Someone used a few of my photos in an ad they ran in SCH USA last year. They did not ask me (my name was on the photo) and they copied them off of someone's website that had permission from me to use them. I saw them when the magazine came out. So, that is OK? I think not.
