Are the Mals from show lines still suitable for work? or have they gone the way of the GSD and others. I'm planning on buying a Mal to train in Shutzhund and I found a breeder close to me. http://www.trisorts.com but no mention of the working ability is mentioned on the web sight.
Dennis,
The mals are by no means ruined to the extent of the GSD. You can get a malinois from just about any litter and I truely believe it will work to an extent with proper imprinting, but I would say again just what I said, "to an extent", with that said I would not take my chances with Show breeders, and that is exactly what they are. They are ovbiously breeding for purposes different than what you have in mind. I would highly recommend buying from a like minded breeder. The working Mal breeders enourmously out number show breeders, and that is what is working in the favor of preserving the working Mal today. In short, I'd definatly look elsewhere. ~CHRIS D.
This kennel is worth giving a look and they are over your way. I can tell you the lowenfels stuff is great bloodlines. web page
PS: I know they are in West virginia and as a result their breedings might be close but I'd give them a look. <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/laugh.gif" alt="" /> <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/laugh.gif" alt="" /> <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/laugh.gif" alt="" /> <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/laugh.gif" alt="" /> <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/laugh.gif" alt="" /> I'm sorry WV people, I just couldn't resist, please take it light heartedly, meanwhile, ROTFLMFAO, ROTFLMFAO, ROTFLMFAO!!!

Of course, the people of WV tend to be tolerant of their less then sophisticated neighbors. <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/laugh.gif" alt="" />
I know this breeder. A good friend of mine has a male from the "F" litter. Nice drives and a super temperament.
