I was wondering what people thought of Colmans Crieger vom Bahnhof and the Nymph lines. And If he were crossed with a bitch linebred on the Weyermuhle lines. I think that this would be a great cross. Looking for input.
Thanks

Don't see why it wouldn't.

I just got a Dobe pup sired by Colmans Calderon v Bahnhof, a littermate to Crieger. These guys come from a litter of seven dogs, five of which earned SchH3 titles. Crieger also has an IPO3 title. There was another dog in the litter trained to SchH1 but the owner chose not to pursue trialing.

Where did you get the pup from? I didn't think Tina had bred Deanno in a while. Any way, how old is he? What do you think of him? Do you like the Nymph lines? I have seen Deanno work before at our club. He has a great bite and is very driven. He is a great dog.

I got him from von Asgard Dobes. I have Fenris von Asgard and Tina has his brother Feus. I've only had him for a couple of days; he's 5 mos. old today. He's happy, outgoing, bold, pushy, lots of prey and everything he takes into his mouth goes clear back to the molars. I've never seen a puppy open its mouth so wide! I am very happy with him. Tina said she loves Feus too.

Update on Fenris von Asgard....took him to the training field last night. He was awesome. His breeding shows through in his bitework. Deep full mouth bite and a real desire to get that agitator. This is fun! (Especially since I train with several Malinois.)

Searching for a tough dobe. Have a GSD that I've titled to a 'BH' and we're working hard toward our schH I (working VERY hard-she's show lines!). I don't know anything about reading a dobe pedigree to determine show vs. working show lines... have always worked w/ shepherds. Can anyone recommend a kennel to get a pup from? Want to do pp/sport.
thanks!

Hi GSDobe, It all depends what YOU mean by tough. Do you want a more sporty type, high prey, easier obedience, competition type dog? Or maybe a bit sharper, higher aggression, more headstrong, harder, dominant type dog? Both have their place, but which do you want, or need? You need to know what your main focus in training would be(high level competition, or dabble in Sch but mostly personal protection training), as this will affect the breeders choice in which pup you would suit you better.
Also you say you not used to reading Dobe pedigrees, or which lines are show or working show. What about straight working lines? Are you interested in them at all, or do you really want conformation first and working ability second? There are lots of kennels breeding for that! There are not many kennels breeding for solid working ability first, in Dobes.
A good way to tell on a Dobe pedigree about the lines; if on a 5 or 6 generation pedigree most or all the dogs have Sch. titles and have passed the Koerung (KK1a, KK2a, Ang. etc), and you see very few to none of Ch. titles, then you are looking at a working pedigree. If you see some Sch. titles, ZTPs, and lots of Ch. titles, then it is most likely a Euro show/work line, and if just Ch. titles, with 1 or 2 Sch. titles and a couple of Ob. titles, then probably a N. Amer. show line.
My advise to you is to work your GSD and put a Sch title (or 2 or 3) on it, as you will learn a lot working with this dog. Hang out at your Sch. club, and others, as much as you can, and watch all the dogs work and try to develope an eye for a good dog and a good performance (not just scores), so when it comes time to buy your next dog you are able to cut through all the BS put out there by some breeders, and with luck get a very good dog.

I'd go with straight working lines. No question after everything I've learned here. If you'd like to have a Sport and PP Dog, I think I'd one a pup that had more of the PP Dog characteristics. I think with the right training and dedication you can get it to do both.
You can't make it doing something it doesn't have the genetic make up to do. Some sports dogs, and maybe many couldn't do Protection work. That's why I would look for one to do that first. Then train it with Schutzhund.
I'm not experienced like several people on the board but if I had to say, then that's what I would do.
Question to the board members, can training your sports dog in PP work be achieved? If so how easily? If I'm not mistaken I think it can, but I'm not exactly sure or to what level.

If you have the right dog, and the right focus in Schutzhund training, you can do both.
