We just picked up a GSD that was seized in Iowa from an immigrant family that was fattening him for slaughter. Thoughtful neighbors alerted the authorities, who seized the dog and turned him over to us. The poor boy was about 5 months old and his muscles were so atrophied he couldn't even walk for a block.
If it makes you feel any better, he's doing fine now in his foster home (Simon).
Anything you can do to help any rescue group helps us all. There are always too many dogs in need.
I went and looked at the pictures and I must say it literally brought tears to my eyes that people can be so cruel to animals that didn't ask to be brought into this world. Looking at those pics, I just wish I could save them all!
I can think of a few things to do to the people who did that to those dogs...but it is nothing that should be repeated out loud.
I just don't understand how anyone could do that to an animal. It just breaks my heart

If you want to make a difference, get involved. Most groups I know of you can do as much or as little as your time permits. Every little bit helps and can make a difference. This kind of stuff is VERY disturbing.
I know what you mean Dobemom, I had tears in my eyes as well. You know its amazing how people can do this to the most noble, faithful and loving creature out there. One dog looked like he had his eye burned with a blowtorch or something.
Pete,
I'm glad everything worked out for that GSD, he looks like a really nice dog. He was a lucky one (being fattened for slaughter???) my God. Its just a shame that other dogs aren't so lucky.
Its very disturbing what animoscity and cruelty some people are capable of.
