A word of advice, don't buy from the local paper. Check out good kennels on the net or locally. If you're planning to work this dog, don't get American lines. Buy American does not apply to dogs.
Kim, does this mean you have to buy a pup from Europe?? I know the Dobe has been watered down alot i the U.S.A.,but there has to be working lines in this country worthy of owning.
OK DOBE owners, speak up and let yourself be heard.
i bought a male dobermann from kimbertal kennel before, it turns out he had weak nerve, and couldn't do protection work. so i am thinking about getting another female. any advise will be appreciated.
As previously stated stay away from American lines. This would include Kimbertal(Although they have a guarantee if looking to replace your dog), Hoytt and the like. Look for American. When I was at the Flinks seminar in NM last year, there was a Dobie breeder there. Very nice dogs. Maybe Cindy, or Kevin will remember who they were.
Deanna, I understood the post. I'm just tired of hearing "DON'T BUY AMERICAN LINES"
How many generations of a dogs lineage that are born in the USA before we can say we are breeding good dogs. 3 or 5 or 10 or just how many. Yes if we breed to dogs not registered in the USA then yes I would understand. Dogs bred here that are born here should be considered American Working Lines. This should cause an UPROAR!!
Would ED's dogs be considered AMERICAN WORKING Lines if he only bred back to the dogs he has bred.
Maybe we can start a new thread to discuss this.
It should bring out some good comments.
