thumbs up for Ed's opinion on the rednecks that watch pitbull fights I agree with him 100% they are sick %&*((* to watch them my husband has 3 pits sweet loving and the children love them he raised 2 of them from pups and raised them with love and kindness he gets sick at his at heart when he hears of pits being fought in fact he took his x best friend's dog away from him he caught him fighting her and she was pregant! the day he brought her in she was a bloody mess and it was touch and go she fought hard for her life she went into early labor lose her babies she is well and happy today she lost a eye crippled in her back left leg but she is the grandchildren best friend and she is happy every time I look at her I do a slow burn and if I every see her X owner he may just get a good___ kicking from me. so all the sick cruel pitbull fighters out there you all need to be taken into a ring and fought until you look like this poor little girl. keep fighting Ed your right 100%!!!!
Virginia, I've had similar experiences. Someone brought in a pit bull that had lost a fight (using the usual, oh he got out excuse) to the vet hospital where I used to work and never came back for him. He had skin missing in such large chunks that it was impossible to stich the remaining skin together. Part of his tail was missing from a previous fight and he ended up having one of his eyes taken out.
He was quite possibly one of the best patients they had. He never tried to bite even though he was in pain. I could open up his kennel door and walk in and use the wound spray on him without worrying about him trying to escape it. He never tried to get his collar off either (one if the white plastic sattelite dish looking ones). I would have taken him home if I didn't have Auster.

thanks vince P. for the welcome message I enjoy this board and the topics are great and packed full of information.... I have raised GSD'S for 30 years and have learn new things from this board the owner/breeder that thinks they know all there is to know and can not learn anything new is a fool indeed!! all of you keep up the good work
yes Adam they can be very sweet dogs I am a firm believer that if you raise your dogs like you raise a loved child with love kindness apply firmness with out abuse when needed learn moods and body laugage you can look at your child and know when something is wrong learn to do the same with your pets and when my husband's rescue looks at me with her one good eye and hops over to me to be loved my heart still goes out to her, a person would not throw a child into a fighting ring so how can they do it to a dog that can feel pain and be mangled I have a livid hate for cruelity of any kind and a bigger hate for cruel people who would do this to a poor animal, pits have a very bad rep because of the sport of fighting and I do not go along with the popular beleive that all pits are mean and bad.. stupid people breed stupid beleives.
First off I want to say hi to everybody. I am new here. I read what you all had to say about pit fighting. I will probably take some heat for this but I need to say it. The game bred pit bull's that we have today are the game dogs that they are because people fought them to see if they were game. Once they proved they were that is the one's that were bred. If they did not fight them to test their gameness then they would be an am staff. No offense to you guys I am just saying. Also just like labs like to fetch and swim pit bulls love to fight. I don't think it is cruel to let a dog do what it loves to do. Do people not let their labs go swimming because a shark might bite them? Just a thought. I also want to say that I do not fight my dog and I never will. I will also not breed her because she is not game tested. If you really think about it the best breeders in our breeds history did fight them. That is how we have the game dogs we know and love today. Man I bet you guys are going to eat me alive for this post but hey this is what I think.
I don't think it is cruel to let a dog do what it loves to do. Also just like labs like to fetch and swim pit bulls love to fight. While I am usually for the argument of keeping a breed true to its original purpose, I don't think there is a fair comparison here. Nothing is being killed by the Labrador. Yes, the hunter shoots the duck, but I am hoping that the hunter then eats the duck.
Game bred dogs were bred for fighting FOR HUMAN ENTERTAINMENT. The type of people that find this entertaining ARE SICK. Often with people who are into dog/chicken fighting there is a whole litany of other illegal activity that goes with it.
