Does anybody know the easiest way to make a springpole? Can you buy the spring and stuff at Wal-Mart or somewhere like that? Also what is the best way to get your dog interested in it? I am trying to do some basic conditioning with my 11 month old female. I run with her every other day and just want to add a little springpole to her regimen <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/laugh.gif" alt="" /> thanks Stoner
Springpole is a term. It is actualy a garage door spring or good bungie cord with a hemp rope or hide tied to the end so the dog can play tug of war. The best way to work a dog out with a spring pole is to hang it from a tree with the rope or hide low enough so when the dogs grabs it ONLY his or her FRONT feet are off the ground. You want the dog to pull the rope down as if it's doing crunches. The springpole is a tool to strenghten the mid section of a dog. This is a usefull tool for all breeds of dogs. Just make sure the dog doesn't stay on it too long as this can be hard on the dogs teeth. NEVER ever put a springpole so high that the dog needs to jump up just to get it cause the sudden jerk to the mouth can do damage also.
one word of advice, I've heard horror stories of people using garage door springs, only to have them break. I've heard that an old inner tube(s) is a safer alternative for the spring.
True I forgot to mention you should put a chain through the spring. Basicly you want the chain to go around the spring and hang down from the bottom of the spring about 10inches. This is for safty in the event the spring breaks it wont go shooting into the dog. As with any tool allways inspect it before use.
