This is my first post and I have a questions being that I'm new and trying to read and learn about German Shepherds. I bought a female German Shepherd with German blood lines(turned year old in March) and was wondering if anyone can tell me if she is of working line , show line or both. This is the info. from her pedigree. The Sire is Milo Vom Blackstar DL 76349203, grandfather Canto Vom Tal Der Elfen DL 69485001, gg-grandfather Wito V D Stadt Schmalkalden 1811073SZ. Sire also has Benny Von Der Huhnerburg 1616545SZ in his pedigree. The Dam is Roma Estavon DL 76530809, grandfather: Lido Vom Busch DL62658401, great-grandfather: Fix Vom Batu DL50771601. The Dam also has Bosko Von Ackerman DL589341 in her pedigree.
If you have a German pedigree.... look for V and VA ratings with dogs. These are "show" ratings. If most of the bitches have SchIII titles, this typically indicates working lines. Hopefully someone can help with specific dog info.
Nothing ringing a bell except Batu. There is a data base, SIS, schaferhund information systems, 90,000 dogs in the data base. It will probably even ahe pictures of ancestors.

Now on the Dam's father side, Fix Von Batu and Inga Vom Baronhaus http://www.schafer.is/english/pedigree/30929.html
Inga Vom Baronhaus parents were Eike Vom Hatzfelder and Janka Von Der Burg Hausbrunn ( according to the pedigree)
Thanks for the info. Dave. Being a novice and this was my time buying a German Shepherd that has papers. I first did some reading trying to pick one that didn't have hip or elbow problems (breeder did give written statement on this). I was aware that there was the American and German blood lines and to stay away from American lines. However I didn't know that there was also working and show lines as well.
As for temperment I don't really have a good understanding on how to judge this. She has alot of ball and will take off like a bullet to get it. If the ball goes under something she will not stop until she gets it or she can't find it in tall grass she will use her nose. Also wife has several cats and she keeps them in order. I have given her Basic Obedience training using Ed's tape, but unsure to what level of training I should give her. (any suggestions)
What would you recommend that I read to learn more about German Shepherds: temperment, drives, working, show, and ect.
