OK, everyone's gonna laugh at me, but what IS the kennel rating system? Leerburg Kennel is listed as 'not within any standard' 'not German Shepherd dogs'. Even if they don't like vom Leerburg, how can they say that? (rdsg.com) Or is there just alot of this dumb stuff out there and it doesn't matter? (I'm brand new here so please don't yell at me if this is a ridiculously stupid question to you guys)
It would be explainable like that but it's not. Here's where the 'rating' is: http://realgsd.info/GSDinfo/GerAm/KnameL/knamesL.htm (sorry I don't know how to hyper that there link..)
And here's where the 'ratings' explanation is: http://realgsd.info/Kennels/draten.htm
Does anyone know how they get away with that?
I don't think it's very cool at all. They have their site lookin' all official and German-y, and they've got this big page warning you of "German sounding names" crummy kennels. I can see people thinking they've got a good resource there. What gives?
Glad to see I am not the only one who found that 'system' to be screwey. A friend of mine got listed as a "commercial breeding facility" because they accepted credit cards for BOARDERS. The way they rate it he has it look like he is a mill, when in fact he has 8 dogs and 1 yes, 1 litter a year.
He was trying to set something up to help weed out people who don't breed to the FCI standard. Funny thing is that I bought a dog that wasn't bred to the FCI standard(untitled bitch)(GASP!) from one of the "approved" breeders on their list.
Humm, I got my last 2 pups from *approved* breeders, we are delighted w/both the pups and the breeders. And, the info about local breeders in this area is right on it.
I can see where there would be confusion around the credit card issue, but I gotta say, there are breeders hereabouts who take cc's and they are most assuredly millers.
If anyone has PHP experience then you can help get the new kennel rating/listing system working (first step: email admin@realgsd.info). Then the ratings will be based on reviews by users.
The current system isn't perfect, but could average joe dog owner (the one reading the list) really handle a Leerburg pup?

Ron, I am looking for a companion/protection puppy
plenty of prey, doesnt spook, with a little sharpness. I have looked at a lot of litters around my area , but cant find a dog that has a confident temperment. I have looked at several web sites for dogs, they look great but without seeing them live I am aprehensive about purchasing.
