I think that the change is that now you only have to own the dog from its "B", regardless of age acquired, whee it used to be you had to own the dog from six months
I think the rule change SUCKS!!!!!!!!!!! It's an insult to the people who raise a pup from scratch. For crying out loud, Pirol was imported untitled, but the sucker was FULLY trained in Europe. USA must be desperate to increase participation in the HOT tourney, but this isn't the way to do it. This makes it a joke, as well as an unfair competition. I can import a 2 1/2 yr. old trained in Europe, and walk on the field as if I did all the work on him. What a joke.
<img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/frown.gif" alt="" /> All it takes now is MONEY!!!! <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/confused.gif" alt="" />
So much for hard work and time spent with a young dog. <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/frown.gif" alt="" />
I can see pros and cons both ways. There are lots of people, some in my club, who get an imported dog of one year old- with essentially no training- maybe a couple of bites in a selection test. They had a lot of work to do, just to get the 'B'! A lot of people don't have the time to put into the first year of a puppy's life and then there are also no certainties of hips at say, eight weeks.
I prefer to raise my own dogs from puppyhood, but not everyone does- yet they have certainly trained him themself. Maybe they could compromise and change the ownership requirement to one year old, instead of the former six months?
I agree fully with Lee. I know there are a lot of people they are not ashamed to take the tropy with knowing that they didn't do anything to earn it. I could't look in the mirror doing so. I'm proud to raise my puppy and train it myself.
I've seen a ton of youngsters come over that supposedly were "untrained", but that's never the case. We've got a 9 mos. old that just came to our club from Holland - same story, supposedly "untrained". Geez, this guy heels with the most perfect attention, straight body, flawless and with great attitude; does perfect fronts and has had nice bitework fundamentals on him. Now he's no where near finished, but he darn sure isn't "untrained" by any stretch of the imagination. Most folks wouldn't have the skill to get the calibre of heeling this guy shows, yet it's a HOT dog. NOT!
