I may be a bit dumb here but I do understand that using a clicker reinforces good behaviour in your dog but what do you do when you need do correct your dog? Do you also have to carry around these dog training disks that seem to be the new fad for correcting unwanted behaviour???
Seems to me that by the time you've got your dog on the lead and have all the kit such as the poop bags ,ball, clicker, disks etc you need a suitcase to carry all the gear and you never have your hands free <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/confused.gif" alt="" />

Sorry folks have been away doing the dreaded ironing. Dog Training disks are made by Mikki- they are only about £6 sterling in the shops- they come with quite a good training booklet. They are 4 brass disks on a ring that are attached to a small loop. The basic idea is you train your dog initially to leave a treat by shaking the disks or throwing them to the floor. I suppose they work much the same as the old pebbles in a tin! The booklet explains how they can be used to curb excessive barking. over exuberance with visitors, pulling on the lead etc. The principle is the reverse to the clicker I suppose as the disks are a corrective tool. I suppose the principle is the same as once the dog is conditioned to the disks any member of the family will be able to correct the dog. So there you go that give you a brief idea the booklet has 9 pages of different scenarios where the disks can be used as negative reinforcement <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/laugh.gif" alt="" />
Sounds like the old "throw chain" that was in vogue with AKC obedience about 25 years ago. When you caught the dog in a mis-=deed, i.e. sleeping on the sofa, you were supposed to yell "off" and throw the chain, only the dog wasn't supposed to see the chain...sort of like the wrath of God descended on the dog...well...I could never get it to work. But I guess everything does get recycled.

Well...it's long enough that we could repackage the throw chain, write up some instructions and start selling them again...I think I still have the orginal one in a big box of old dog collars,
so we could use it as a prototype.
Throwing Chains--I bet PETA would have a FIELD DAY, Animal Abuse. :rolleyes:
