anyone have experience with using gold bead implants in their dog for dysplasia, wobblers or any other medical condition?
I have read some of the research but wanted to hear from people first hand their experiences. A friend has a 6-7 month old pup with one really bad hip. she mailed xrays to a vet that specializes in this and he said the dog was a good candidate for the procedure.
I have considered this for my one dog that has spondylosis all through her back and will likely do it in a year or so. I spayed her this past year so want to give her body a chance to recover before going under again.
I have talked to one veternarian and 2 people that had it done on thier dogs for spondylosis. The vet I talked to is actually my retired allopath vet and she has gone more into the holistic end of things after years of seeing some very positive results on her patients. She has seen some incredible differences in the dogs that she has done the surgery on. She has been very open minded to alternative therapies as she herself suffers from some issues and went this route as well.
The 2 people I talked to also gave very positive feedback. Said they noticed a difference very quickly on how the dog seemed to be in a lot less pain and much more active. My one friend actually did the surgery on her 11 yr. old and wished she had done it sooner when she saw how positive the results were.
Cindy,do you mean gold sodium thiomalate therapy? I've never head of it in bead form, but injections, usually once a week for 16 weeks. I've only known one person personally who used it for his GSD, he swears it worked a miracle on the dysplasia. I know of one death resulting from a high toxicity intolerance, but I believe that's pretty rare.
Has your friend looked into a hip replacement? I believe University of Penn. does them as well as Cornell.
There is a vet in Marion, IN that does these implants. He wanted to do it to Braxie. He was recommend by several holistic vets I talked too and pretty much was the pioneer in this field. Dave Church had that done to Maverick and it helped for awhile. I will look up his phone number and email you
