Well I removed a link in the Prong and it still slides to the middle part of his neck. If I remove another link I won't be able to get it around his neck.
From the website on the other thread I started, I learned (alittle too late) how prongs are sized. I ended up ordering an extra heavy because I thought that would be the only one able to fit his neck. Now I know you order by weight. Will the extra heavy work? Or do I need to order another prong?
I didn't think it was suppose to. I thought it was suppose to be at the top part of the neck, up near the ears. Am I wrong?
I guess that depends upon who you ask. I wouldn't place the prong behind the ears, as that is a very sensitive spot, and can be very painful for the dog. I don't want corrections to be painful; just uncomfortable. The middle of the dog's neck has a lot more muscle and tissue, so you can give harder corrections without hurting the dog. Others might have a different opinion on that, though.
I do put the prong up behind the ears.. for obedience work .. I use a small prong collar.. you get alot of collar with very little power. I want to be able to just give a tweak and have the dog listen.. I don't want to have to put my whole body into it.. for protection work.. I use a heavier linked prong.. and baggier too.
The correct position is up higher on the neck below the ears. You will not find a more descriptive article with plenty of pictures then the one Ed has under training articles. Thread closed.
