NEWBIE ALERT!
I need advice. I have a 2 year old Rottie and just purchased a size LARGE HS prong collar. It was too small to connect around his neck, so I bought more HS links.... Now, here is my quandry... Two extra links makes the collar slip lower than the desired neck position in the diagrams, but one extra link makes the fit so tight that I can barely push one finger between the prongs and his skin. It seems to me that he would think he is being corrected by just attaching the lead snap to the collar. I am leaning toward the two links, but you guys are the pros.... talk to me. This is my first training experience with a prong.... I want to get this right for my dog's sake...
Make sure the collar fits high up on the neck just below the ears. Remember that the corrctions given with a prong will have several times the intensity as to that with a Slip Chain (Choke)chain.
Good luck in training your dog.
Alberto's posting of fitting the prong collar can also be read in Adam Katz's book "Secrets of a Professional Dog Trainer" on page 60 - word for word.
I am permanently blocking Alberto Nacario from the board. It has come to my attention that Mr. Nacario has been copying entire passages from Adam Katz's book on dog training and posting them to this board as if he had written them.
Beside the fact that I do not agree with parts of this book, I don't promote this book and I certainly do not sell this book for these reasons.
Mr., Nacario doesn’t seem to understand that plagiarism is not only unacceptable but will not be tolerated on this forum.
