I know this post was in jest, but I believe the whale was exhibiting courting/mating behavior towards the trainer. I do not believe he was being defiant or aggressive, or the trainer probably would not be alive today. He was not even exhibiting the same behavior that they do in the wild when seal hunting. They did mention that the whale was entering mating age, so that's what I think the whole thing was. If he was trying to hurt the trainer, he certainly would have.
