Thanks, Will. I've ordered a couple of things from JJ's before, I like their stuff. Just wanted to use a SchH1 dumbbell, I like them better! Any recommendations for well made schutzhund dumbbells. Was just planning on ordering some from Gappay, unless there's better ones out there.
Thanks.

Jackie,
The maker of the SchH dumbbells is less important than the type of wood that they're made from ( at least for training )
Some of the dumbbells are made from soft pine, and any chewing of the dumbbell will produce wooden splinters or chunks - not a very nice feeling for the dog. I'd avoid softer wood dumbbells if you can.
There are some nice practice dumbbells made entirely from rolled leather for puppies/ young dogs - they're nice for the dogs to take, and the dogs grip them well. Just don't let them run off and chew them, of course.
I'd like to point out that Ed sells dumbbells at this site that are made out of maple, which is perfect.
By the way, it's nice to see someone compete in both of the sports! I still try to achieve AKC titles, but as I lean more towards extreme dogs, it's getting harder and harder. Good luck!
Will Rambeau mentioned that J & J Dog Supplies offers "scent articles". I visited their web site and was unable to find any information regarding this item. Do any of you have advice on what to use to lay a track besides hot dogs? Yes, I am new at this, so be patient please.
Sorry, the scent discrimination articles for Utility in AKC OB are not for tracking. They are roughly dumbbell shaped, with one set made of metal and the other set made out of leather. You present them scent free to the steward at the start of the exercise, and one of each are held back while the rest are spread out in about a 1 meter circle. You then place scent on one of the held back articles and the judge then places it amoung the unscented articles. Obviously, your dog is suppose to bring back the article with your scent.
