Does anybody know anything about Fred Lanting? Why would the AKC strip hin of his Judging authority? Was it because he wanted to bring the American breed standard on par with the SV's standards? He has a book out, was it noted to be a knowlegable/informative book.

The only comment I'll make about Fred Lanting is that he has a lot to say.

I asked because of his predictment that he's in. And that a prominent board (Real GSD discussion forum) seems to see him as their top officail and resident expert.

They think very highly of his opinions and his titles, he is there go to guy. And he seems to have a lot of people who respect him and his work.
Of course if you don't you get thrown off the board.

I know that Fred Lantings opinions are valued by many on that site and some of his old posts are there --- but I have been on it for about 9 months and have not seen ANY posts by him......

Wrong! Fred Lanting does not and has not owned realGSD.info. He was a moderator for the forum in the health section at one time but is no longer. (He doesn't have internet access only a free email account.) The owner has been Martin Wahl for many years and may still be. (Not my place to say one way or the other.) If you want Fred Lanting’s credentials might I suggest you check out his web page that a friend set up for him or the realgsd.info site also has his info listed if you click on his name from anyone of the articles he has written. I believe his credentials are listed there. If not, his email is listed and you can email him and ask all you'd like. Also, the business with the AKC is very old news and also discussed at length in the old forums on realgsd.

Um, wrong, again. You don't get thrown off that board just for disagreeing, (trust me I know what I'm talking about) unless of course you start insulting him or other members there. I have been a member there for maybe 4 years now? I have never seen someone banned just for disagreeing with Mr. Lanting. In fact, I've seen Mr. Wahl and Mr. Lanting argue online. (Mr. Wahl is more on the working side of things and Mr. Lanting is more on the show side or what he'd call "The Total GSD" meaning a show dog that does Schutzhund.) Would be kind of funny to see Mr. Wahl ban himself from his own site. <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/wink.gif" alt="" />

I'll agree with that (though I'm not sure we mean it the same. <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/wink.gif" alt="" /> ) But then doesn't everybody who posts on the internet?

Also, just an FYI which I think most already know, members of realgsd are members here and visa versa. We will not trash Leerburg.com on our site and we kind of expect the same in return. It's one of those things called internet ediquite. Vanheesa, a few years back realGSD was at a different web address and Fred Lanting did most certainly represent himself as THE moderator( or whatever you wish to call it) of that site.

Let's not waste a thread arguing over whether someone on another board is a moderator or not or owner of a board or whatever. Let's keep the thread focused on a training issue.

Mr. Lanting has trialed at our club several times. I have always found him to be a gentleman and a strong advocate of SchH to determine the character of the GSD. Although I am more of a working lines type of guy, some of the dogs that I've seen him with gave a good showing of themselves for show line dogs- a couple that I wouldn't mind showing ( and believe me, that's a real leap for me to say that) myself.

He's a bit of a character, but then aren't we all? SchH trials and seminars brings together alot of "interesting" personalities, for sure! <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/smile.gif" alt="" />
