Someone sent it to me this morning, I've been looking it over. WDM part looks like it's basically SchH. The file is in Adobe Acrobat, so if you don't have it, you can DL it here...
After any of you decide to wade through the 55 pages outlining the program and the rules, care to comment on what you think about it? I kind of read fast, but I don't think there were age limits for the Junior, Senior, and Open levels, but the Masters requires 15mos for Bh, 18mos for WDM I, 19mos for WDM II, and 20mos for WDM III. Dogs that already have SchH (or their equivalent) titles will be grandfathered into the Masters level, Bh is a requirement to do Masters level.
Read through it quickly and picked up several areas of interest:
1) "Only Parent Clubs are eligible to host Master level tests. Initially, only the German Shepherd Dog America and the Doberman Pincher Club of America will be eligible to host a Masters Test."
2)"A prerequisite for entering a Masters level test is the successful completion of the BH (International Companion Dog degree)"
3) "A foreign or imported dog may enter directly in the Master Levels of the WDS program provided the entrant possesses proof of a previously awarded degree of SchH I, II or III. The entrant must enclose the original foreign scorebook with the application and fee ..."
4) "A Judge must keep in mind the fact that he is evaluating numerically, a defined set of abilities and not judging a dog in relation to the performances or merits of the other dogs entered. A dog’s abilities are scored against an established standard."
(ie, different from the standard AKC show judging... <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/wink.gif" alt="" /> )
Requirements for the Master's level:
1.hip/elbow certification. Doesn't specify if AKC will recognize anything, but OFA. If only OFA then the minimum ages for doing the titles is a bit moot.
2. AKC DNA
3. Microchip registered with AKC
Other requirements for the Master's level:
1.hip/elbow certification. Doesn't specify if AKC will recognize anything, but OFA. If only OFA then the minimum ages for doing the titles is a bit moot.
2. AKC DNA
3. Microchip registered with AKC
Lisa - can you reference the page that states hip cert reqmt? cannot find it, only found tattoo/ microchip reqmt, but not DNA or AKC-registered microchip.
Sec.4. Eligability for WDS personel (helper?)
Sec.7. Judges Elegibility
I think I'm even semi-qualified for those. <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/laugh.gif" alt="" /> and I don't know squat.
What kind of helpers are they expecting to get?
Well, I belong to a GSDCA-WDA club ( hey...quit laughing! I'm serious, stop laughing!) and our president is a judge and on their board - he is telling us that this will be the salvation of the GSD as we know it. Expect the AKC/GSDCA to push this *big* time! I have even heard these folks say that this "working dog program" will make the DVG and Schutzhund USA irrelevent and will sound the death toll of those organizations ( this is pretty much their exact quote that I'm using here)
Hmmm......so far the AKC has pretty much ruined the GSD for what, 55 years now? I'm just sure all those parent clubs that are filled with breeders that produce crap will gladly embrace working standards for their dogs.....AS IF!
