Has anyone seen the new book and care to comment on it before I buy it? I think the title is "The BARF Diet". I'm not sure exactly when it was released.

Hey everyone, Just my two cents worth on the barf diet and all the others. For years and years breeders and show handlers have always used premium dog food, only and produced outstanding dogs that healthy and at there peak health wise. I have never seen conclusive studies showing feeding with all natural diets that dog on this diet are any healther or live longer than a dog fed with a premium dog food,or that there physically superior in size or muscle,or bone. Genetics plays a huge part.

yet I have seen studies where dogs fed "premium" kibble were more inclined to sicknesses, had less stamina, higher chances of bloat, anal sac problems, allergy problems, and poor coats. I'll stick with the BARF for my working dogs thanks, besides, our vet complains that we never bring him a sick dog and that ours look much healthier than any others that he sees, and as far as he knows, we're the only ones that use his services that feed BARF to our GSDs.
I've decided to request the first two books from the library and see how I like them. Stupid me forgot all about requesting the first two books from the library. I'll probably request most of the books from the library and buy the ones I find the most helpful.
Rottie-man, I have a dog with auto immune problems. My options are trying to prevent damage or spending $2K (I'm not sure exactly how much) a surgery to fix it. Being a poor college student, I'll try the prevention first <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/wink.gif" alt="" /> .

I have the new Billinghurst book. It is a lot 'thinner' than his other books. (and cheaper) This one is really the 'beginner' book in some ways. For those people just starting out with BARF and want some direction. It is not as 'technical' as the other books....perhaps more for the layman. Chapters include Keys to feeding BARF; Building blocks of BARF; Bones , Bugs and BARF, Switching to BARF; How much; starting out, troubleshooting; etc. He does set about to answer many questions that people often have about BARF....some of them being the 'dangers' etc.
It is an easy read and probably worth the money it costs. It might be a good book to actually give or sell to puppy buyers.

I guess I'll start with his first book. I want a book that explains the why (nutritionally) behind everything they recommend feeding, especially the supplements. Since Auster has her problems I want to closely examine every aspect of the diet before I start. The last thing I want to do is boost her immune system which is most owners' goal.
