I just found out that I can register my pup with the WUSV through USA.
Any info on getting this done greatly appreciated.
Any comments pro or con also appreciated.
Sorry about being uninformed. <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/blush.gif" alt="" /> <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/frown.gif" alt="" />
It bothers me that the AKC papers do not accept any titles earned by nthe parents, this gets me %#@*^%. <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/mad.gif" alt="" /> Excuse the french.
My question is why would you want to register your dog with USA or the WUSV? AKC papers legitimize your dog, why pay another organization?
I have fundamental problems with the USA breeding program and their registration. Unless USA chooses to do something positive with their program, by positive I mean something that encourages WORKING dogs and their continued use in service, then why give them support?
You like the show dogs you see at USA conformation shows, I don't. I think that is what you are basically supporting when you register your dog. The whole system.
I'm going to take a hit for that, but I'm more than a little disappointed in USAs program. They had an opportunity to really do something special to promote and preserve the working GSD, and they dropped the ball IMO.
With the USA, in order to show at any big working event the GSD MUST be registered with USA/SV. You can not enter without this organizations registration. Only having AKC will not permit you to show. I do not know about the other organizations and their policies to show at big event. If you are not showing through USA I wouldn't worry about it.
This is off topic, but.... can anyone answer this: I heard that the club delegates to the national board meeting at the upcoming nationals have a window for registration from 6:15 - 6:45 AM and then it CLOSES!! Is this true??? Does this really mean that delegates who miss that tiny window will be excluded from voting?
I think its 'good', but it still leaves quite a bit to be desired.
One, I think the litter registrations are expensive, and thus discouraging some from participating.
Secondly, the recent proposal by the USCA's Breed Advisory Committee to lower the minimum breeding requirement from a SchH1 to a BH doesn't help. This proposal has already passed the Executive Board and is now up for vote by the membership. I urge all who are eligible to vote, vote against this proposal.
Ethically, the USCA system is better for the breed than the AKC, but realistically, at this point the dogs need to be AKC registered for widespread recognition. The USCA needs to sell their way to the FCI for international recognition. The USCA BAC generally emphasizes conformation more than I'd like to see, but then I have little interest in conformation events, especially beyond the KKl. The AKC is developing 'working' dog standards/evals for SchH type/PSD/service work, I don't know the details, but it is happening.
