Hello. I am a new member here. My girl has started being chewy in her grips. She was coming in solid with no real challenge posed to her. She is non pulsed by the crack of the popper so I don't think there is a problem with that, but I am seeing the same thing with her biting her jute. I am attributing it to maturity changes. She is now 17mos. so still very young. She has not been subjected to a real courage test, but what I have seen courage is not the problem. I have started leaving her side and going around the blind during the bark and hold because she is showing handler dependence. So I suppose I have too issues to correct. I am not super concerened but I do not want to correct incorrectly. I don't want to create problems. BTW she just got her BH!! So no rush, I am just not sure if this is age since she is still young yet.

Any help would be appreciated.
I have this problem with my girl also. I beleive that it was a problem with my counter work at a young age. She is only 1yr. I would release the tug whenever she countered and I beleive this caused the chewy grip. What I have found that works is the methods explained in Ed's video on Bite training pups. He explains that the helper should just give slack in the line whenever the dog counters and to set the grip. Do this a few times and then release on the counter. I have done this excersice, myself, at home with my dog. And it seems to be helping out. She is still a little mouthy, but I have only been doing this for a little over a week now so I will give it some more time. I do not think this is a nerve problem with alot of dogs, but just bad training. Hope this helps.
