I bought an 8 week puppy out of czech lines in the US. Sire and dam have czech papers. The breeder promised to send me the AKC reg papers (blue slip) for the pup within a few weeks of purchase. 6 weeks have gone by and the breeder blames the delay on the AKC for back log. Is this delay reasonable ?. Anybody have experience in this.
yes it is and perhaps longer for it took a very long time for me to get papers on my current GSD. It especially seems even longer when the dam is new in the US for my prior GSD took nearly 6 monhs before I got papers. It took 5 weeks for me to get my registration papers (that is the papers I received from the breeder and then sent to the akc). so six weeks is not unusual from my past experiences. Now I am waiting for the registration to come back from the SV abd i am told that may take up to a year!
I duno about the AKC, but the CKC has a 6 month limit on recieving papers... the breeder can get kicked right out if they do not comply with papers within 6 months. I would think 6 weeks is nothing.. I am still waiting at 8 months..but there are circumstances with the parents ownership bla bla bla... lucky for me I am good friends with my bredder so it's all good. If you are worried I would contact the AKC and see what their rules are about this sort of thing.

If the parents are both imports, first look in the AKC Database if they are registered already(it is free database), if they are not there, it can be a long wait. If they are recents imports, it takes 4-6mo. to get their Export pedigrees, then they have to be registered with AKC before you can apply for litter registration. Then the paper work has to be done correctly or it will be kicked back by AKC. If done correctly, to get import registred with AKC will take approx 2-3 weeks. No big thing. I have registered 5 Czech dogs with AKC and each took approx 2-3 weeks to get their AKC slip. Just recently registered one dog and in 3 weeks had his AKC slip, so no back log at AKC. I wouldn't blame the AKC, usually the papers work isn't done correctly by the breeder/owner or the dogs was bred before they got the export pedigree, nothing wrong with that tho as long as the papers will follow.
Thanks Laureen,
I had just heard that through another breeder I know.. so it was second hand onfo.. you could very well be right, I never looked into it fully. Now I'm gona... hehe I need to know now!

Let me know Lonny - when I called them about another matter they did tell me of the complaint with that breeder, I was just checking around as several of this breeder's dogs land in rescue in Ontario, usually for temperament problems.
