Just curious: We all know why we like Czech line GSD's.
Did/does the Border Patrol and/or any other breeding facilities in CZ or other Eastern Block countries produce other working breeds (Dobermann, Rottweiler, Boxer, Giant Schnauzer, etc.) in the same fasion as they do GSD's? IE, maintaining strong nerves, hardness high drives and outstanding working ability?
If so, does anyone have any contact info for these breeders?
From the research I have done, the Czech/Slovak breeders, both zPS and Policia, have tried other breeds over the years.. There were Rotts at z PS back in the early years, and some experimentation in hybrids gave birth to the Czech wolfdog..
Bojar vom Schotterhof, a DDR dog with HUGE bone and head, was used in a breeding with a female wolf in one of 3 attempts at a strain of wolf/dog hybrid..
There were two dogs that I would love to find more info on also,
Gingo z Duboveského zámku
Cézar z Bøezového háje
Alena z Týn. dolu

Lisa-Euorsport K9 for all of the nice dogs they have are not a facility that I beleive Scott is referring to. They do have some very nice rotts as well as GSD's however they are not and never were in the business of breeding dogs for one specific task such as the Czech Border Patrol. I beleive even they would tell you that their rotts are bred first for winning show conformation and 2nd for sport ability as that is what sells and what they do personally. They don't have a 50 plus year tradition of breeding their own dogs. Their best rott and in fact one of the nicest rotts you can find is a dog they purchased.
Scott-I think most of the old Eastern Block countries that go back to before the wall came down spent their time building up their GSD's as they were found to be best all around dogs for the job at hand. And of course DDR dogs and Czech dogs were smuggled across borders to bring in new blood etc. I think of course they on occasion experimented with other breeds the GSD produced more dogs that consistently can do the job at hand than other breeds.
