Does any one have any experience with a dominant male K-9 who will be going to K-9 school in a few weeks? Our german shepherd is a beautiful 19 month old 90 pound dog who is dominant in nature. What ever his mouth or feet touches he assuems these are his. He is also likes to mark his territory including my winter jacket, and no this is not outside in the winter, we are talking inside a house. He is learning commands in Czech because he will be trained in narcots, tracking, obedience and protection. I don't mind the curiosity but marking my jacket is a little to the extreme. Any suggestions?

Czech commands are becoming more and more common to the police force. It's either Czech or German since most people in the U.S. won't recognize K-9 commands, unless they are of that direct decent. Any ideas?
No ideas, I'm just a vendor for various departments, some of them large, and I've never heard of any department using Czech commands.
All the dogs that I've imported that had previous training in Flemish, Slovak, or Czech were retrained to German by department requests.
Well let's just say he is very inquisitive, nosey but not pushy and truley halarious. He is going to make a great K-9. Has a nose for anything with a smell, and his ears are the radars picking up signals from outer space. He misses very little.

Teri-I think your dog marking your coat is a dominance issue, like peeing on your bed or shoes etc. I would train that out of him quickly as it sounds like he's a good dog which with his upcoming training he will gain even more confidence and you don't want him using it on you.
Also I've never heard of any PD's retraining a dog in Czech but the PD's I've dealt with who buy Czech dogs stick with the Czech commands. I like them personally myself also..I'm with Vancamp....must be a Pac NW thing. Derek

this is just what i would do........others may have another solution.
give the pissy coat to the dog. see how he likes sleeping on it. (for a few nights in his crate) then i'd go out and get myself a new coat and make darn sure i hung the thing up when i wasn't wearing it so there would be no chance of him marking the new one.
you said, "our" dog. obviously, he does not regard you as his superior, so who is going to be working this dog?
if there are no dogs in heaven, then when i die i want to go where they went. ---will rogers
