I am new to this forum, but really enjoy reading it. I have two Czech dogs. My male is a Congo Vikar grandson, Gero Blatenskeho zamku grandson, and a Grim ZPS great-grandson. My female is a Congo Vikar daughter and a Faro Policia granddaughter. I really like Congo and have worked him once before. His grips were crushing to say the least. My question is how does Congo match up to other top Czech dogs? I plan on breeding the two of them as long as hips and elbows check out. The breeder said that the tight line breeding on Congo would produce really serious and tough dogs. Any comments would be greatly appreciated.
Robert, What dont you like about Congo?
What are the negatives. I am looking to buy a Congo son. what are positives. It will be good to hear a opinion of someone that is not trying to sell him. I know that there is positives and negatives to every dog. I need to hear them all
I have been very pleased with what I have seen not only from my dogs, but from others that have Congo in their lines. Both of my dogs have tons of drive and are working well in all three phases of training. I personally really like what I have seen from Congo, and am just curious about what others think.

Both VC and I live in the same basic neighborhood as Congo Vikar. Personally I think he is a stallion of a dog and from all accounts he is a hard dog and a very very good worker with excellent conformation. However many people say that he does not produce anything like himself. I know of people who have "given up" or changed goals with offspring of his and made them pets or kids dogs who compete in AKC obedience etc etc as they have no desire to work. Now in fairness most great dogs will produce some dogs that are not super stars, it is after all half the mothers genetics and then its up to us humans to raise them to be the dogs we want them to be. But I will say from my findings Congo seems to produce dogs that are very soft and in larger numbers than would be expected. As many puppies as he has produced I have not heard of any of his sons or daughters being worldclass at anything. I don't know if he has any offspring in Police work or the like. The way the VDH dogs are sold turns some people off and may keep alot of the offspring out of some very capable hands that could get the offspring in the news a bit more. Again though I think Congo is as nice an individual as you might be able to find.

I train with a guy that has a Congo and Amalka PS son and he is awesome. He is only about 1.5 yrs old but he already delivers crushing bites and will charge into any situation. He has a strong willingness to work and loves to do it. He is good around the family but he definitely isn't for a beginner.
Someone I know in OR bred to a Congo son last year. The Congo son is a PSD and is also on the SWAT team. I'll try to dig up his name, pedigree, and possibly a photo for anyone interested. I have it in my files somewhere around here (recently moved and still trying to get everything sorted out and put away). While not representative of the overall production of Congo, it is at least one son that is a proven worker.
Every Congo son I've seen has been soft, avoidance prone, and low drive. I've tested six sons for protection work and advised all six owners to find different dogs.
I have yet to see any Congo progeny that will bite bad people, and that's really what I want to see.
And now I'm sure that a handful of board members will tell stories of their own incredible pups, or their friend's super pup, or some great dog they have heard of or seen who is the best working dog ever. None of that will change my mind, or change what I say about Congo, till I have seen first hand some badazz Congo sons who will eat me alive.
isn't that considered beastiality? <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/tongue.gif" alt="" /> <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/laugh.gif" alt="" />
Seriously though, I doubt you'll see that kind of dog out of Congo from what I've heard. Just for informational purposes, I found the dam on the SWAT Congo son, it's Denny Jipo Me. Might've be a fluke or might've been a good combo, I can't say anything for sure as I've not seen any of his progeny first hand.
Well to each his own, I have seen one and taken bites from a Congo son that is a great dog for 1.5 yrs old. So people should draw their own conclusions.
