If you were evaluating a 9 - 12mo DDR shepherd as a possible protection candidate. What tests would you give and where would you expect him or her to be.
And for those that are specificaly familar with DDR maturity would this test be any different with other working lines you have seen.
P>S forget lineage at this point as you would be evaluating an individual dog.
Unless that is you are of the opinion that certain lineage would overided particular behavior you were not pleased with at this stage of devolpment.
This is a hypothetical dog, as I am curious as to get more information a DDR dogs devolpment.
But lets say "solid" .... able to due Shutz. I, PSA 1 or an able bodied manstopper.
A dog that would be considered a "Good Dog" in most working dog venues.
The reason for this thread was I have recently started seeing people with 100% east german dogs and the consensus is the devolep slow. I am wondereing if those on this board have seen such, and if so what should this "hypotetical" dog show.
PS...one of my current dogs is 50% DDR breed to Leerburgs...Qatana. He is 11months and had a lull period but is turning out great.
I have a male with loads of DDR in his lines and yes he is slow to develop but has been worth it. he is a strong protection dog and i hoope to trial him in PSA August of 2005. He will be 3.5 years then. Great tracking dog as well and very trainable. we have got hi CDX and hope to get his TDX at the end of august of this year. all round he has been a great dog with good nerves but yes he has been slow to develop mentaly. He has had "lull periods"a few times during training and was thinking of washing him out but it was worth it in the end. the hard work payed off. i have to get him away from the vacum as i speek.lol
I have a dog that is 6-6 on Ingo Rudigen, through Robbie Glockneck and Verwin Blitseard. And yes she is slow to mature. All of the pups from my dog's sire were slow to mature. A couple of my dog's littermates were placed with K-9 handlers, if this says anything.
