I've been interested in getting a GSD for sometime now and am trying to learn as much info as I can before I buy.
I've volunteered as victim for a SAR group and have observed several Schutzhund trainings.
I'm interested in getting a GSD and would like to do TTD then air scenting and I'm looking for a good working line around Western PA (Pittsuburgh).
Any help would be appreciated. Thanks
-Kevin

I'm not going to get into a battle over this, but I didn't find the comment
I "3rd" that vote. Actually, I would consider going to Lee before I would inquire with the others mentioned.
Jim and Molly have proven to be fine Breeders. I DO know the true story behind Lee's "Kougar". It's funny how Kougar used to cary his Breeders kennel name, now it's no longer there. He become such a great dog through his breeding and Breeder too. I think all three Breeders mentioned are ethical Breeders, though I don't know Lee, I'm sure she stands behind her dogs as Molly and Jim do. That's what is important. I think the phrase used above was out of line. We all have our preferances, that is why Kevin asked, he didn't ask for negative comments about other Breeders. Now, I could understand if the Breeders mentioned where back yard or puppy mill Breeders. I'll also mention that Eichenluft dogs are becoming well known in the SchH world, SAR, PPD, Police and as great family companions. And that Molly and Eagle v. Eichenluft made the FCI World team. This is who Kougar(v. Eichenluft) is from. And look at his great accomplishments.
Anyway....

It is MY personal preference, based on the lines I like and how well I know Lee and her ideals. I've talked to Molly on a few occassions as well, but I would prefer to buy a dog from Lee before either of the other 2. Train with a dog from that came from Jim, have trained and evaluated one from Molly. Seems like you have some need to defend Molly or something. Nobody said anything bad about either.
I stand by my statement and opinion...

Mike's comment wasn't inappropriate at all. I don't know what the hell your problem is Brandi??
Anybody can suggest any breeder they like, in any order of preference that they like.
Nothing negative was said other than a personal preference.
You people are crazy sometimes.

Thanks Brandi -
Brandi knows my dogs very well, unlike most people she has met most of them in person, knows their temperaments, personalities and accomplishments. Everyone is entitled to their opinions - I say, if you're looking for a breeder, ask them questions and for references from people who have bought dogs from them. Do some research on the bloodlines and individual dogs used by that breeder. Go meet the breeder and his/her dogs in person. Ask for proof of what the breeder tells you about them. If you're looking for a working dog, be suspicious if the breeder does not raise/work/train/title his/her own dogs from his/her own breeding program, as I (and Jim and some others) have done.
I know Lee Hough - and believe she has begun a very quality breeding program. She has quality females, and seems to be choosing quality males - her plan for the future of her breeding program is very similar to my own - improving the breed and producing quality dogs, healthy, sound, correct in type and capable of working in many capacities.
If you'd like to compare Jim Hill, myself and Lee as breeders - the main difference is time in breeding and number of dogs bred. Jim and I have produced many titled dogs (not just in Schutzhund but also police, detection, SAR, competitive obedience, herding, agility) not to mention wonderful sound family companions. My breeding program has produced over 35 working-titled and/or certified dogs including Lee's Kougar. Lee's program has produced very nice puppies, they are not old enough yet to prove themselves as anything other than quality working prospects. But, I have no doubt they will!
