New handler, willing to provide proper time, energy and finances, looking for a quality working GSD puppy.
Planning on either SAR or SchH training, depending on the availability of local resources to help. Currently no children, which will change in a few years.
Black and tan perfered. I live in Vermont, and willing to have dog shipped.
Hoping to have puppy some time in spring or early summer.
Breeders: Feel free to PM me with information about upcoming breedings or upcoming/current litters with approximate pricing.
Others: Feel free to suggest any great breeders or more importantly, and bad experiences. All info provided will remain confidential.
Thanks,
Christian

I'm interested in a male puppy. Primarily because I've read that they tend to perform better in SchH. If I'm mistaken, or if there is an opinion that a female is better suited for a handler like myself, please give me your honest opinion.
But, my intention is to purchase a male.

The vast majority of competition dogs are male. In general, they have more fight, natural aggression, whatever you want to call it. It still depends on the individual dog though. My male is very handler soft and responsive but he's balls to the wall when he's doing sleeve work. There are a few females (canine and human)out there that would make me eat what I said because there are always exceptions. If your inexpierienced, trust a GOOD breeder to help you make the selection.

Many of the best breeders won't give you one of their better puppies until they are really assured of your commitment.
I understand the logic in not wanting to waste a better puppy on a new handler. However, it would be unfortunate to be provided with a marginal (for lack of a better word) puppy, potentally making it more difficult for an new handler having to deal with a puppy not suited for the application (SAR or SchH).
To answer your questions, I've had family dogs growing up, and trained them in very basic OB. This will be my first GSD and working dog and I have no protection experience. I briefly met a member of a local club at my vet's office, and am currently in the process of establishing contact.
I've decided that SAR probably would't be a good fit, and have decided that SchH is a more realistic goal.

Since this is a section dealing with an AD for a pup, lets keep to that topic and not wander off into the reasoning behind who gets the pick pup, etc.
I will say that "MY PICK" pup that I would have kept for myself in my last litter DID go to a new handler . Not all breeders will give the newbie a lesser pup. A good one will fit the dog to the person and will take all angles into consideration.

Deanna, excellent post. I agree 100% - I would be thrilled to place one of my "pick" pups into a serious working home, whether that was with an experienced or novice handler. After all, we were all novice once, I had a wonderful first dog, and I'm happy to match excellent pups with excellent homes, regardless of experience - if the person has the desire to learn, a good puppy will help take them where they want to go.

***EDIT***
This thread is an experiment. It is for people trying to buy dogs for working or for breeding. This is NOT FOR PEOPLE SELLING DOGS. If you have a dog for sale - take it to a private e-mail. I will only warn people one time about posting a reply with a dog they have for sale.
*****
I added this from the front of this forum to explain why no one has posted links directly to litters. The poster asked to be contacted and that is how it should be done if someone is interested in selling to him. Thanks, Deanna
