I just wanted to say that my gsd is from a mix of EVERY line i traced his pedagreee and he has american show german show german working all the lines. I did find out that his grandfather on his fathers side was a working police dog. But anyways i really dont think my dog has what it takes to be a shutzund dog but then again i have not had him evaluated so im not sure. HE is NEVER agressive and LOVESSSSSSSSS everyone wand loves to jump on people like crazy NEVER barks at anyone aside from the few odd times he will bark at people therew the fence because he wants them to come and PET HIM! once in a while he will bark at stranges noises and stuff. he does seem to have lots of prey drive loves to chase things cats birds anything really but what im curious about is can i dog like this ever have a chance with PPD work? my goal is first to get him into a well trained pet but in the future training him to bark or bare teeth on command would that be a really tough task that only spefici dogs can do? just curious
Steve, if this is your goal and I mean no offense here, you are really going to need to learn more about dog training. It's not just about teaching a dog to bare his teeth.
I would suggest finding a qualified trainer in your area to see if you can get an evaluation of your dog. If your dog has the drive, then there shouldn't be any reason why he can't do the work. Keep in mind that it takes time, commitment, & competence to handle a dog like this.
18 months but im first trying to get him better OB trained i was just curious as to what kind of dog it takes to do this sort of work. I mean before i thought that all PP dogs were able to to shutzhund and vice versa
he is still so young, and you have yet to have him looked at by any trainer. If he has drive he can work to what level you wont know till u test him.A pp dog should have a serious drive and harder nerves than most schutzhund dogs (imo)good luck and keep training
well i got in touch with a Professional trainer. We are currently in the process of trying to find a good date to meet. IN the meantime i just had a few questions. Do you know any good sites where i can read more about this sport? also what kinds of dogs have u seen been worked even labs or goldens? mutts? are most dogs that do this sport friendly dogs to begin with?
