Human treadmills, at least the higher end ones, have a good amount of give to them.
If you're interested in a dog tread mill, go to the folks that do the best job of it - and that is without a doubt the pit bull folks.
There's a device called a slatmill ( the Colby site has a carpet version, likely the one that you viewed )
The more hard core version is usually out of pine wood slats that are a fairly soft wood. You need to keep your dogs nails short to use them, but the results can be awesome. My training buddy uses that version on his phenomenal IPO III Mal and the dog is a veritable work machine, just a mass of muscle and endurance. That dog would snicker at an AD test.
What is the difference between the slat mill and the carpet mill, other than the noise level? Does the slat mill provide something that the carpetmill does not? Do either of these treadmills provide inclines? If not I guess one could place something under the front to create an incline.
I bought a "Jog-A-Dog" motorized treadmill a few years ago. It has a built-in timer and speed adjustment. I've been very happy with it. Not cheap, but works well. Be careful with motorized units. I know someone that killed a dog on one.
Reminds me of the commercial where the guy hooks up his little dog to the treadmill and sneaks off to Outback restaurant for a steak. Man, training for that AD is tough business!
just curious do you all thing doggy tredmills are a good thing? i mean with a doggy tredmill exercise would never be an issue right? we cOUld keep a malonois in a bachlor pad LOL but yeah to be honest if i was going to move to an apt having one would be a really good thing cause i could use it along with additional exercise! what u all think
JMHO, but I think a treadmill can give a dog an excellent workout but working dogs like high drive GSDs and Mals still have to satisfy their chewing/biting needs. The treadmill ain't gonna do that.
