I agree on the food drive for puppies
( training),but an alternet of some play drive for the pups are also good!this really seems to catch there attention when the food drive runs out,use a lariet rope ( good strenght) attach gunny sack its great!J
food is good ok for pups, with some basic stuff. but if you are looking to build drive (which most of us are) i would stray away from food and work on a rag, tug, ball, etc.

Your on target. I'm working a friends Golden on obed. She is 9 weeks old. She has some pray drive but not enough at this age. Using food this girl drops for down and wont miss a sit. But I will move to pray as she aquires more. And drop the food.
Suggestion - don't drop ANY tool that is useful. It doesn't have to be (shouldn't be?) all or none. I always have both balls and food on me at all times. Food is terrific for reinforcing the stationary commands (sit, down, stand); it allows you to reinforce the behavior without having to release the dog from it. Same with fronts. Mix it with prey for the optimal effect.
Tools for training should be postive and food has its place as do the balls ,i like to have both when training .I have one dog that like rubber hoses, and loves them ,some days i feel like a carpenter with all these things hanging from my pockets .lol Peter
We've got 2 youngsters who are waaayyyy too hysterical for the toy to be useful for the non movement commands. Food works much better, esp for the baby pup. The older pup is dh's dog, food works so so, but he's convinced dh is hiding a toy somewhere and would prefer to jump around frisking dh for the toy he knows is stashed.
HELLO I HAVE A DOG THAT IS FOOD AGRESSIVE WHAT CAN I DO ON CHANGING THAT.I HAVE ALWAYS PETTED HIM WHY HE WAS EATING BUT NOW HE GROWLS AND EATS REAL FAST HE IS 6 MONTHS OLD NOW
Welcome aboard. Try to not post in all caps. it can be hard to follow. Also, your question is off topic. At 6 months of age, you can correct this problem. When the dog is mature, it will be a much bigger problem. Try checking Ed's QandA section on aggression or his articles. Then if you still have a question, start a thread under Dogs that are agressive towards people/food aggression. If you need help navigating through the board, feel free to send me or another moderator a private message and we will help you.
Why did he get food agressive? Is there another dog in the house or some other reason for the defensive behavior. If not what I would do is get down and pet him and take his food away and give it right back so he could learn that it isn't going anywhere.
