I would like to hear opinions on what you think is the next best food to the BARF diet ..... I have read Eds articles and have looked up the brands he has listed there, most were available in local stores here in Charlotte, NC. What brands do you use and why? I have a 15 month old male GSD who needs a maintenance food, he specializes in chasing balls, sleeping in the air conditioning and chasing balls. (Let's not forget OB)
Why settle for the next best? Just out of curiosity?
I am personnaly partial to wellness by old mother hubbard. That is what I fed my dogs prior to making the switch. They have several different flavors, fish and sweet potato, super five mix, etc. and it is all human grade... I tried it and they all taste like fish, but the dogs liked it.
I agree.. nothing better than BARF diet! You will see about a 100% diffrence in your dog on this diet. The only two kibbles I know and would use are Innova and Solid Gold. Even still, breath stinks, coats are not as nice, dry skin...I could go on, and the most important if all Stool is cut by 3/4's and has no stink! I don't understand why that reason alone would'nt be a good enough reason to switch. I can fit my dogs crap in a candy bar wrapper, and it's hard, not soft and mushy...ewwwwwwwwwww
Leute mögen Hunde, aber Leute LIEBEN ausgebildete Hunde!

You can fit your dogs crap in a candy bar wrapper? You got some serious issues bro.
Why not do the best? Well at this time it just wouldn't work for me - I need a food I can easily travel with and/or one my family will feed when I am gone ..... and let's just say my daughter won't even touch the water in the aquarium ..... however when I retire ..... ah yes .....
Well then, you will just have to try one and see if it works for your dog. I know lots of people who swear by solid gold, but my dog didn't do well on it, so it is a trial and error process. All of the foods listed on Ed's page are human grade, and some have different degrees of by-products in them, so just make the best choice you can for your dog...
