I am so mad - I must vent! I have had continual problems with the neighbours dog for three years.
Whenever I have females in season this dog is a constant visitor to my yard at all hours of day and night, even to the point of the dog standing up and peering in the bedroom windows which are low, circling the house whining, taking a dump on my deck etc plus getting the whole kennel stirred up. For the last 3 nights he has been camped on my front lawn and it was just about impossible to get my two females out of the house for a pee, and when I did he would take a run at me and bark if I tried to chase him off. 4 o'clock in the morning 2 nights ago I ended up running down the road in my nightie and slippers
chasing the dog until he squared off at me and decided to bark at length(and bark and bark and bark....) I had to chase him off with the truck to get rid of him. Got fed up and phoned the neighbours who are never home and left a msg to tie up the dog. Didn't see the dog all day and figured they had got the msg. I went out for supper last night and made sure that the windows were all closed and locked and the girls were cloistered inside like nuns. Came home 3 hours later and see my old bitch running loose in my yard! Went into the house and my female leader
who was in standing season was gone thru the broken bedroom window and was nowhere in sight
drove frantically around looking and calling
and got home to find her and her seducer in the yard. I was never so glad to see a dog in my life but I am so mad! the consequences of what could have happened leave me weakin the knees. Around here anything that looks like a wolf gets shot on sight especially if they are caught running deer which she would certainly do. Plus there is getting hit by a car, or snared etc.
As it is fall training is supposed to start in a couple of weeks and this is one of my main dogs!
I need this dog to work this winter- she is a part of my business! I don't want to get a mismate shot as I think they are dangerous and this is a bitch I wanted to breed on her next heat to a dog from Quebec and if she is pregant that scotches that plan! I phoned the By-law enforcement officer and he is completely on my side and is helping but it is still going to cost me a lot of time and aggravation at my busiest
time of year to get anything out of these people for their irresponsible actions! Sorry for the long post but there is still steam shooting out of my ears and I am afraid of the top of my head blowing off if I don't vent! Anybody had similar problems with idiots, half-wits and irresponsible brain-dead inbred hillbillies?

Dear Tiggy,
I feel your pain. When I first moved to my current home there was a Rott that was always allowed to run free through the area. I live in the country but that is no excuse for dogs running loose. I was walking my dog home from the lake one day when I came across this Rott. I tried to ignore the dog but it decided it would charge. I pulled my revolver and fired into the ground which halted the dog. I am sure all of the neighbors heard the shot. I proceeded home at which time I ran into one of the neighbors. I was so pissed I couldn't hardly stand it. I asked if they knew who owned the dog and of course they said no. I told them if they did to tell them the next time that dog was loose and came close to me it was a dead dog. I don't know how you feel but I don't put up with any bullshit when it comes to some idiot ass and their dog. Try to talk to these people and warn them, if they ignore you kill the damn dog. As a teenager I learned a hard lesson when a sheep farmer shot one of my dogs, lesson learned. The way I see it I control my dogs, everyone else should control theirs.

Tiggy
From other posts, it doesn't sound like you have much in the way of animal control dept. where you are at. You sound like you are in a rural area and your "neighbors" just don't get it.
I know I'm going to get people pissed off here, but there is a point, through no fault of his own, the dog needs to be shot. The dog can be more danger to just you and your dogs, especially in a rural area with no animal control.

Maybe you should trap him and have him neutered.

That was good of you to fire a warning shot like you did Bosederhund, many people wouldn't have. I usually don't like to do it unless it's a must. The situation is though, what are going to do? Those situations really anger me, and I see it all the time when I'm on my place in the country. It's like these people don't realize that coyotes, etc., will kill their dog. It makes no sense to me. This is very similar to the people who have small children that let them roam. It's too bad we can't cull the owners. Unfortuately the dogs suffer as usual.
As much as I love dogs and sometimes I hate doing that kind of thing BUT sometimes it's a must.
Weigh your options though, if the neighbors are going to be more trouble than they're worth then think of something else. If that doesn't bother you then give them their final warning and act accordingly. That's my advise. Sometimes killing one's dog can cause SERIOUS emotions, not that you shouldn't, like Boser mentioned, I agree 100% but if the owners are idiots be careful. I'd do what Boser recommended though. It's just that sometimes you got to be ready to back it up. I've seen emotions run deep when someone's dog gets red tagged, EVEN when it was their fault.
I think you should give ONE SERIOUS WARNING, and then see what happens.

I don't think Tiggy would have someone else do the neutering if she trapped him, if you get my drift.
Hang in their Tiggy. I don't know if there is an easy answer.

Tiggy, know the feeling the county i live in has NO leash law, every time my neighbors husky comes into heat every stray mut shows its face, even the nutered ones, the 2 worst will even come to my front door at 5 in the morning to mark territory, my male sleeps in the living room, ya you guessed it im killing myself to get to the front door to stop the fight that i know is about to start, they dont like my male in their territory, even though its not their property, when we (neighbors) complain to this dog owner all she says is if they do any damage let her know and she will take care of it, we have called the cops (sheriff) and they talk to her, but that only helps for a little while, I'm with some of the others im about to do some damage of my own, there are lots of woods here to get rid of them in.

Tiggy,
Heres what i did to a strange dog. Feed it some hot dogs so I could leash it. Throw it in the car and took it the humane society.

If you hit those people's pocket book you'd be VERY surprised to see how much they'd change their attitude. lol
Would it be easy to catch this dog?
