Hi, I wonder if one of you seasoned veterans could set me right on this. I read somewhere that the areas of our homes that we permit our dog's access to, become the areas they will guard as "teritory" and that if we disallow them access to the master bedroom or kids room then in the event that someone gains entry through one of these windows the dog will not cross the line by entering but rather stay outside the door. Please, I'm new to this game, forgive my ignorance. And I've taken into account the door knob factor, cheers
In theroy that is correct, it really depends on how you disallow access to a room, if you just simply close the door and not give access that way, the dog would most likley jump at the chance to bite the bad guy coming in the window.
If you say avoidence trained the boundry, the dog would most likley not enter the room no matter what the distraction, even a bad guy, because he would remember the corrections and avoid it at all cost. Same goes for any kind of boundry training... it does not have to be avoidence training....I just used that type as an example.
Furthermore, I think that the whole house and land around it is preceved as the dogs "territory", just some rooms or areas may be off limits to enter without permission from the Alpha.

Nice one, just needed setting straight on that front, now that you've laid out the facts I see that the article I read was probably written by someone who knew what they were talking about, but I probably didnt read it in the right context.
Romulus,
Lonny B, anwsered that as directly as anyone could have! Individual rooms may be off limits not the entire premisies. I know I wouldn't want the common areas of my house or property to be off limits if I had a problem or my loved ones. It's open season on the bad guys if there in the house! and the my 2 GSD's are there. <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/laugh.gif" alt="" />
Lonny B, nice reply!
