I was wondering what the view was on which sex made the better working dog.I am thinking more for competition.Males seem to be favored,am I wrong?Having asked this I know it varies within working breed and particular dog. What do you think?

There is certainly a difference in ability between the male GSD and female GSD(generally). I wish that was not the case. Males just seem to be hardwired to go out and kick butt, less females are as tough.
For sport, and especially for beginers, I like females. They can be just as hard as males but are usually less pushy and easier to live with.
If you are getting a puppy and you want to get a dog with the best working potential, I think it is safer to get a male, no matter what breed you are after.
Needles to say, you must get a dog from working lines if you want to get the best working dog. Don't get caught up in the crap that dogs bred for conformation shows are the best dogs. Look for strong working lines, you can ask around here to find out the difference.
Get a German Shepherd, by the way. <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/laugh.gif" alt="" />

Males are nice, but there is something really special about a small, fast, hard hitting female with a lotta heart that always makes me stop and stare.

Joe, I guess I'm a few steps down on the evolutionary ladder, cuz it ain't the speed, quickness, or heart of a female that usually makes me stop and stare.

Oh, and one more thing. I know it is off topic, but if anyone is ever looking for a big, fat, slow minded, slow bodied, dim whitted, dull, bluffing, pug faced, flop eared, slobbery, wheezing, snorting, bobbed tail, muscle head, learns best by the 2x4 method, "pseudo" working dog. . .I have just the breed.
Actually Joe has just the breed. . .
