Half of my kennel has a rubber mat. I just ise them so the dogs have a place to lay besides in the dog house, without having to lay o the gravel.
I thought it would be the cat's meow; put one in each run (mine are on a wood deck). Never caught one of them laying on the darn things! A year later, I took them out. But if you were using them to cover the whole surface, I would think they would work great.
Lee,
Yes,I plan on using it over the whole foor with maybe an elevated platform and doghouse.
I am hoping it will keep the dogs cleaner since they will be in the house at night and during days I am home.
I plan on 2 separate runs.
Erin
While I have not used them for kennel flooring, I can tell you that they do not get slippery when wet. I have cleaned many a horse stall that had them, and had them in the crosstie area in the barn where we often horsed horses down. Depending on who makes them they have different textures. Some have the raised tread like things that you see on aluminum truck stuff, and others have grooves. Being that they were made to be peed and pooped on, I don't think you will have a problem with slipping!
I use them in the crate in the house. They work well to reduce noise and provide more comfort tham the plastic bottoms. My only complaint are the little rubber beeds that accumulate from the dogs scratching etc.
The only things that I can think of that could be a pain is if the stools get smooshed in the seams between mats, might be hard to get clean? Kinda like mine do between the wood boards - real pain in the winter. And being black, they do get quite hot if they are in the sun.
I use rubber mats in my isolation kennel area for my incoming foster dogs. I turned the mat to the smooth side up to make cleaning/moping easier and allows for better drying. The grooves tend to trap the excrietment and make the cleaning job much more difficult. I pull up the ends and fold over to clean the underside where the mats meet but surprisingly; not much filters between but I do put down newspapers to be the "catcher" if the dog potty's within the kennel.
