Reading on another forum about the differences in SchH and IPO.
Being new to Sport competitions I'm not familier with the differences. Would some of you experienced with each or both please enlighten me.
Kevin, when being judged do the dogs have to show all the same qualities for both SchH and IPO.
Are the dogs judged to the same standards?
Any other info that would explain the differiences.
Thanks, <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/blush.gif" alt="" /> <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/frown.gif" alt="" />
There are very few differences. Just going fom memor here. The main difference is the attack after the first bark and hold. The dog is placed as in schutzhund. The decoy takes off. The dog can't leave until the handler gives a command for him to do so. Also on the courage test I don't think you can hold the dog. I think there are also stricter rules about being dirty and outing. I would appreciate any corrections or additions anyone wants to make.
In addition to not holding the dog on the long attack, I don't think you're allowed to walk towards the decoy until the judge signals you. Not for sure, but that's what I seem to remember.
The IPO rules have been changed recently. IPO3 is now more like SchH3.
The IPO3 callout from the H&B and escape bite are now like in SchH3... the handler does not command the dog to pursue the escaping helper, the dog must do it independently.
In IPO3, the handler may now hold the dog by his collar prior to the longbite. As in SchH3, the handler cannot agitate the dog.
As before, the blind search in IPO3 is worth 10 points rather than 5 points in SchH3.
It is true as Mike says that during the IPO3 long bite the handler cannot move until the judge signals. But then, that's the way protection was done at the recent USA SchH3 Nationals too.
They deleted the stand in motion from a walk from IPO3 OB. Stand from a run remains. So each of the 3 remaining out of motion exercises are now worth 10 points. Dogs who do a "SchH3 sit" (a stand when they are supposed to sit) are going to get penalized more than in the past.
I have never seen IPO FH rules before the recent rulebook, but it sure looks a lot different than VDH/USA FH. IPO FH involves two 1800 pace tracks done on separate days, each scored at 100 points. The dog has to get at least 70 points in each to pass. Each track has 8 legs, 7 corners (at least 2 acute with angles), 7 articles, 2 cross tracks. Looks sorta like back to back FH2 tracks.
Originally posted by VanCamp, Robert: If IPO could stop tinkering with the damn rules. Hey, it could be worse. At least the FCI documents the IPO rule changes in their rulebook. How many changes have been made to USA's SchH rules over the past several years... none of which are in USA's out-of-date rulebook?
