Which is the best guard and family dog out of the 2???
I am interested in buying a second dog but dont know which is better suitable for me and my family
Stella, this is a topic that only you can answer. There are good family protection dogs in both breeds, you only need to find one. Research both breeds, look at health and temperment, and meet breeders of both. That is the best way to decide. Ultimately you will be the one to live with the dog for the next 10-14 yrs... best if you decide on what YOU think you need.
I have researched both of the breeds and they are magnificent dogs. I already have a long coated gsd but i have had him for 2 months. I agree with meeting breeders BUT where i come from true breeders are just starting now and are very far from where i live. most people i know are how do you say; "back yard breeders" and that isnt what i am searching for
Some people say that its easier to find a good GSD then you can a Dobermann. But if you find a good Dobermann it is an excellent dog. If the dog will be a inside dog either would do, but if its an outside dog or one that will spend most of his time outside then the GSD is better suited for your overall purpose.
If the deciding factor is looks, then only you can decided which is best for you. I like both bred but favor the GSD because of his even temperment and all purpose ability in training. Personally I think a GSD is easier to train, a Dobermann is smart, but will object to doing things in repetition sometimes. Others say that he as easy to train. But this is not my what I've seen. The Dobermann looks fast when he running, hell really he is fast. But so is the GSD.
I've had both and prefer the GSD as it seems to be more versitile. But I think that it is personal preference, buy what you like. Consider buying from a breeder on the internet. there are some good breeders out there, just look for them. Stay away from american lines and show dogs.
