I felt the need to respond to the article writen by Mr. Moses on Dallas were he talks openly about breeding to bitches who have bad hips.
It was a nice clean letter.
Anyway; The managing editor of the Dog Place wrote me back and in a nice ay praised Mr Moses for his wisdom and candor in knowing that there is more than OFA in finding good hips. ETC. ETC.
She invited me to respond with a artical representing the other side ( dont breed to displastic dogs) Though I have been breeding and training for many years, I do not havethe ability to use those big words and to be NICE about stupidity. I realize that there is more to it tha heredity. But I also know its wrong to take unnecessary chances on bad hips.
So Im asking if there is anyone out there who feel strongly and has the ability to respond with something worthy of them printing. If so send me your E-Mailaddress and I will forward this letter I reciever.
There is a link to the article where he openly admits breeding his stud to a DOZEN bitches that couldn't a number with OFA.
Check out the article in that thread it will make you happy <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/mad.gif" alt="" /> <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/mad.gif" alt="" /> <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/mad.gif" alt="" />
I also read that article where Moses admits to breeding non-ofa'd bitches. Bad comment, even worse action. And then in that same interview he says soemthing that sounds like he's admitting he may have been part of todays problems with the AmBred:
(commenting about judging Dallas...)
“I mean, this dog has the proper muzzle, and the proper back skull. They are so used to … well, what we’ve done in this breed is we spend all of our time wanting the fleetest movers and for years I was a proponent of it. I caused a lot of it because I was younger and aggressive and I wanted the fanciest side gaiters I could get. And what we did was got a lot of fluffy coated Shepherds with feet like a fifty-cent piece. When you put them in the tub and put the hose on you had nothing left! It narrowed their head, their back-skull, and their muzzle. This dog is strong; this is what they’re supposed to be. Our standard calls for a medium size breed with excellent secondary sex characteristics. We’re getting better and better but that’s another reason why a lot of breeders use him. So many all-breed judges have been used to seeing such narrow back skulls, roman noses, and weak under-jaws that they fault his head!"
(Now please don't shoot the messenger...I'm not defending Moses; I never heard of him before this Dallas thing came up and I know squat about breeding; I am but puzzled by the contradictions in that article.)
