I was just looking through the news paper classifieds and saw an ad for a miniature german shepherd I have never seen any thing like this and was wondering if any one here has ever seen or heard of one
sounds like some kind of scram and would probably have pretty trashy nerves but I think would be cool to see
Well, by definition it isn't a German Shepherd Dog. Frankly, it sounds like an abomination to me--about as far from what the GSD is intended for as one can get.
it very well could be a GSD, but one with pituitary dwarfism. It happens from time to time with certain bloodlines. There are some websites that show some "dwarf" GSDs, you can do a search and probably see them.
If that is the case, I wouldn't do more than look. They don't live very long. I have seen one that passed through rescue. It was mini, but not proportionate, so it looked like it belonged in with the bearded lady at the carnival. LOL
I wouldn't doubt that someone is trying to breed "mini shepherds" though. I got into an argument with some bonehead that wanted to breed "mini cocker spaniels" here locally not too long ago.
just to clear things up I am defiently not looking to buy it, I am not looking to buy any dog right now I just saw it and was wondering what it was <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/smile.gif" alt="" />
I'm going to e-mail ALF, ELF, and PETA and tell them that these people are breeding dwarf GSDs that die in a few months from problems, are vicious, can subsist ONLY on red meat, they make their beds out of mink fur, they cut down old growth forests to make their kennels and houses, they cause an unnatural desire to abuse small woodland creatures, and they are the #1 dog of choice with agents of the FBI, CIA, NSA, NRA, and the USDA beef counsel. . .
There were some idiots doing this locally a few yrs back. Selling *mini GSDs*, *guaranteed not to go over 35 lbs*, w/a Czech sire, no less. They couldn't even spell *Czech*.
Yeah, they were intentionally breeding dwarfs. I helped them out tho by posting their phone # and em addy on a legit GSD forum so that knowledgeable, caring folks would be able to contact these poor misguided souls and offer advice and, er uh *counsel*.
By the next time the paper came out, the pups were available for *placement in good homes*, no longer for sale at an absurd price.
I know the thought of the mini GSD, or whatever they are going to call it irritates most. But where do you think all these ankle biter dogs came from. At one time they were a full sized something. Breeders, as a rule, breed what sells.
